People here in Indonesia are, generally speaking, super friendly. Sometimes they are so nice that they offer you places to stay, to eat, and even to spend time together. At the same time though, sometimes they seem to enjoy having “foreigners” around them. This is just an angle to look at it, but when we are walking down on the streets, they often shout at us, “Halo Mr.!”, and seem to be having so much fun just by themselves! In a rare case, I am called “Halo Ms.!”. It can get annoying when you are tried walking on the streets and still get so much attention.
By the way, I don’t know how many times I was asked if I was Chinese or Korean. Why not Japanese?! It’s not that I don’t want to look like Chinese or Korean because I truly think I look like them, but guys! Look at what you guys use for cooking every meal. It’s Ajinomoto, so unhealthy but tasty MSG that the Japanese company proudly produces across Indonesia. So why not Japanese. (written by Mia)
